The Valley Of The Leopard Photographic Safari

 • 10th – 19th September 2025 – FULLY BOOKED

 • Tour Location: Zambia

 • 2025 Tour Price: $11,995 per person

 •  Group Size: 6

 • Tutor: Tom Way & Richard Peters

Limited to only six guests with two professional wildlife photographer guides. This exclusive safari workshop offers a full 7 days at camp, giving you 14 game drives, which is a fantastic amount of time on location behind the camera. Plus, it allows us plenty of time to spend with you for an enhanced learning experience. This safari aims to maximise our days shooting in the very best conditions, leaving time for image reviews and further tuition in camp. Regardless of your experience our aim is to enable you to take more compelling and engaging photographs, whilst understanding more about your camera before the safari comes to an end.

We pride ourselves on picking the best geographical locations to maximise photo opportunities. For your Zambia adventure this is no different. We have very carefully chosen what we believe to be the optimal location for this safari, within what is widely known as the ‘Valley Of The Leopard’. The large ebony woodlands of South Luangwa lend themselves very well to arguably Africa’s most beautiful big cat. As well as leopard, the variety and density of wildlife within South Luangwa National Park is said to be among the richest on the continent. Combined with grassy open plains and the winding river basin of the Luangwa, this stunning landscape is home to many of Africa’s most iconic species. With a range of diverse habitats and wildlife, we will aim to find as many beautiful photographic encounters as possible. By basing ourselves inside the park and in the most Northernly sector, away from the high density of camps, and in turn the more crowded areas, this location gives us far greater flexibility. This is key for vehicle positioning and best use of light. Being situated in close proximity to the Luangwa River also increases our photographic opportunities as large numbers of animals congregate around these areas during the peak of the dry season.

Guidance & Tuition

This photography workshop is designed to maximise both your learning in the field and at camp, so you come away from your safari with the very best photographs and knowledge possible. Our approach is quality over quantity and this style is certainly something we would both like to instil during our time with you. Rather than a simple tick-list approach, we will proactively be on the lookout for the best photographic encounters. This is the same approach we have successfully applied to our own photography over the years. As such we recognise it as the best way to build a beautiful portfolio of images.

Whilst we will always endeavour to find the most sought after animals, if there is an exceptional image opportunity, we will always prioritise the quality of the photo potential over that of the subject.

We will be making as much use of our time at camp as possible, as we believe the learning experience does not just stop at pressing the shutter release on a game drive. Once back in camp, we will be available for a number of different individual and group sessions, covering a variety of areas from how to process your images to learning how to print.

Itinerary

Day 1

We are met on arrival at Lusaka Airport before taking a short transfer by car to our local hotel, for an overnight stay, to rest after our international flights.

Day 2

After breakfast we are collected as a group and driven back to Lusaka Airport for our flight to South Luangwa National Park. We are met at Mfuwe Airstrip by our guides and have a 2-3 hour drive to camp, arriving for lunch. There will be time to settle in before we give a short presentation on initial camera set-ups, shooting techniques and generally what to expect from the coming days. We then head out late afternoon on a game drive to explore the area for the first time, before returning for dinner and drinks by the open camp fire.

Day 3

We will leave camp each morning before sunrise. In this way we can ensure we are in position to use the very best light before the African sun becomes too strong. We will stop for refreshments, before looking out for more photo opportunities as we slowly head back to camp and a hearty breakfast. At this point you will have time to rest, eat lunch and also download/ review your photographs before the afternoon drive. We will be on hand during this time to help with image reviews and additional tuition and advice. Once the light begins to soften we will embark on our afternoon game drive, once again returning after dark for dinner and drinks.

Day 4 - 8

Each day we will repeat the same pattern as Day 3.

Day 9

On our last day we will have a morning game drive before breakfast at camp, transfer back to Mfuwe, and catch our flight directly back to Lusaka International Airport.

Day 10

Arrive home in the morning after our overnight flights.
