Visit one of Africa’s last true wildernesses

Zambia | Wildlife In The Wilderness

Limited to only six guests with two professional wildlife photographer guides. This exclusive safari workshop offers a full 8 days across two camps, giving you 16 game drives, which is a fantastic amount of time on location behind the camera. Plus, it allows us plenty of time to spend with you for an enhanced learning experience. This safari aims to maximise our days shooting in the very best conditions, leaving time for image reviews and further tuition in camp. Regardless of your experience, our aim is to help you take more compelling and engaging photographs, whilst understanding more about your camera before the safari comes to an end.

We pride ourselves on picking the best geographical locations to maximise photo opportunities. For your Zambia adventure this is no different. For our 2027 Edition, we have combined what we believe to be the two most productive locations within Zambia for wildlife photography. Both Zambia's South Luangwa and Lower Zambezi National Park's have an incredible density and variety of habitats and therefore wildlife, which is said to be among the richest on the continent. Both locations are famous for the high density of leopard and, whilst wild dogs are often seen in both locations, Lower Zambezi on its day can be exceptionally good for sightings of this species. Both areas are home to many of Africa's other iconic wildlife and, with a combination of habitats from stunning winterthorn forests through to the winding river basin of the Luangwa, these stunning landscapes will provide us with an array of striking wildlife photography encounters.

We tend not to share all of our tour details online and therefore full information about this safari is available via PDF on request. If you have any questions or would like to register your interest please email info@tomway.co.uk or call 07876 333787.

Workshop Highlights

Limited To Six Guests

A small group size is incredibly important. It not only gives you more space in the vehicle (each guest has access to their own row of seats), but it also gives us plenty of time to spend with you for a more personalised and enhanced learning experience.

8 Days In Camp

This safari workshop includes a full 8 days across two different locations giving a total of 16 game drives. This provides plenty of time in the field to produce a beautiful portfolio of photographs throughout our time in Zambia.

In Camp Workshops

To maximise our time in camp, we will be available on a daily basis to give informative image reviews and detailed guidance on how to process an array of different photographs.

Two Professional Photographer Guides

With access to two incredibly experienced photographic guides, you will always have help and advice on each and everyone of your game drives.

Two Different Settings

Our time in Zambia is split equally between two incredibly rich photographic areas giving you the opportunity to explore two different landscapes and settings for your portfolio of images.

Perfect Camp Locations

Camp location is everything and with our many years of experience of travelling to Zambia, we have hand picked two locations inside the national parks. This means we are in the prime wildlife areas along with a significantly reduced number of tourists.

Itinerary

Day 1: We are met on arrival at Lusaka Airport before taking a short transfer by car to our local hotel, for an overnight stay, to rest after our international flights.

Day 2: After breakfast we are collected as a group and driven back to Lusaka Airport for our flight into Lower Zambezi National Park. We are met at the local airstrip by our guides and transfer to camp in time to settle in, have lunch and talk through initial camera set-ups, shooting techniques and generally what to expect over the coming days. For this section of our safari, we have arranged to be expertly driven by the owners and directors of the camp. This is a huge privilege as no one knows this part of Lower Zambezi better than our guides/drivers. Having their knowledge and experience for finding wildlife, and vehicle positioning, will give us an unparalleled advantage and increase our photographic opportunities. We will go out on our first game drive later in the afternoon to explore the area for the first time, before returning for dinner and drinks by the camp fire.

Day 3: We will leave camp each morning before sunrise. In this way we can ensure we are in position to use the very best light before the African sun becomes too strong. At this time of year, both locations we will be visiting on this safari can be very warm. We will stop for breakfast, before looking out for more photo opportunities as we slowly head back to camp. At this point you will have time to rest, eat lunch and also download/review your photographs before the afternoon drive. We will be on hand during this time to help with image reviews and additional tuition and advice. Once the light begins to soften we will embark on our afternoon game drive, once again returning after dark for dinner and drinks.

Day 4 - 5: Each day we will repeat the same pattern as Day 3.

Day 6: On our last morning in Lower Zambezi, flight time dependent, we will have a short morning game drive or game drive on route to the airstrip, before our direct flight to South Luangwa National Park. We are met at Mfuwe Airstrip by our guides and have a 2-3 hour drive to our next camp arriving for a late lunch and an afternoon game drive to explore and photograph in this new area.

Day 7 - 9: We will have a very similar routine in South Luangwa to that of Lower Zambezi. With early starts to work in the best light, we will return to camp during the heat of the day to rest and review your photographs, before venturing out again in the afternoon once the light becomes a little softer.

Day 10: Our last morning will be international flight time dependent. We will have a morning game drive before breakfast at camp then transfer back to Mfuwe, to catch our flight directly back to Lusaka International Airport.

Day 11: Arrive home.

Guidance, Tuition & Expertise

This photography workshop is designed to maximise both your learning in the field and at camp, so you come away from your safari with the very best photographs and knowledge possible. Our approach is quality over quantity and this style is certainly something we would both like to instil during our time with you. Rather than a simple tick-list approach, we will proactively be on the lookout for the best photographic encounters. This is the same approach we have successfully applied to our own photography over the years. As such we recognise it as the best way to build a beautiful portfolio of images.

Zambia is where it all began for Tom’s safari career back in 2010 and he has been visiting this stunning country every year since. With this level of expertise from years in the field, Tom has been able to coordinate a safari to put you in the right place at the right time, giving you the best possible chance of taking a portfolio of great photographs throughout your stay.

Whilst we will always endeavour to find the most sought after animals, if there is an exceptional image opportunity, we will always prioritise the quality of the photo potential over that of the subject.. We will be making as much use of our time at camp as possible, as we believe the learning experience does not just stop at pressing the shutter release on a game drive. Once back in camp, we will be available for image reviews and processing tutorials covering any questions you may have about your photographs.
